With a humble beginning as a four bedded clinic in the year 1973, This hospital started by Dr. P. M Mathai is laid on a strong foundation of values and medical ethics. Built ‘ brick by brick’ by him aided by a dedicated group of doctors, nurses and other care providers, gradually with more than three decades of dedication and hard work, transformed this hospital into a 200 bedded modern hospital. Lisa Hospital is Pro Life with a no abortion policy and by providing free palliative care to terminally ill cancer patients. Years of close association with the population we serve have helped us to enhance our facilities and develop a keen spirit of continuous improvement. Today we dream of a healthy and happy society and ever willing to serve for the same and to live up to our motto of caring with compassion.

Dr. P. M. Mathai MD, a leading medical practitioner started his career by opening a four bedded clinic named Thiruvambady medical a rented building on the sixth of September 1973, in Thiruvambady, which was then a small village in kozhikode district of Kerala, South India
  • The present hospital was started as an 18 bedded hospital in the year 1975. Inaugurated at Thiruvambady, on the sixth of September, 1975 by the late Dr. C.B.C. Warrier the eminent professor of medicine, Calicut Medical College. Lisa hospital was started by Dr P.M Matrhai, out of concern for the lack of medical facility in this area at a time when people had to travel all most 35 kilometers for the nearest medical facility and with a vision to provide quality modern medical care at his on home town. From its humble beginning the hospital was built over the last 33 years ‘brick by brick’ with his dedication and had work and thus covering many mile stones over the years.
  • The x-ray unit and clinical laboratory was inaugurated on 16th December 1980 by Dr. N.S. Venugopal.
  • A well equipped operation theater became operational on 17th July 1984 inaugurated by Dr. Karthikeya Verma, Professor of Paediatric surgery, Calicut Medical college.
  • In September 1993 saw a major upgradation of the facilities in the form of a renovated out patient block which was inaugurated by His Excellency Mar Sebastian Mankuzhikary, the then Bishop of Thamarassery diocese, and the new intensive care unit by Dr. Paneendranath Thotta, Professor of anesthesiology and critical care medicine, Kasturba medical college, Manipal. The Ultrasound scanner was inaugurated by Dr. P. C. Eashaw on the same occassion
  • In the year 2000 the hospital celebrated its silver jubilee and also along with it, a thorough remake and upgradation of its inpatient facilities. A pain and palliative care centre to care for terminally ill cancer patients - a fully charitable concern, and also the only such centre providing inpatients care in whole of Kerala state, was inaugurated as a part of the silver jubilee celebrations. Mr. V.C. Kabeer, the health minister of Kerala inaugurated the silver jubilee celebrations. Mr. M. Muraleedharan MP inaugurated the silver jubilee block. The pain and Palliative care centre was inaugurated by Mr. David Joranson, director of WHO collaborating centre for palliative care, Wisconsin, USA. A renovated labour room and labour theatre was inaugurated by Dr. Rama Devi who was a one of our first Gynaecologists.
  • Lisa School of Nursing was started on the 5th of January 2002 with strength of 20 students, providing diploma in general nursing and midwifery with sanction from the government of kerala and the Kerala nurses and midwifes council and Indian nursing council. Permanent building and infrastructure facility were completed and the new school building was inaugurated on 26th June 2005 by Mr. M.P. Veerendrakumar MP and presided by Mr. Rajeevakshan, Registrar, Kerala Nurses and midwives council, Thiruvanathapuram. The school was recognized by the Indian nursing council in September 2006.
  • Surgical wing of the hospital got a major upgradation in December 2007 with the inauguration of a surgical complex with three modern operation theaters and postoperative intensive care unit. The new complex was blessed by His Excellency Mar Paul Chittilappally, the Bishop of Thamarassery Diocese, and inaugurated by Dr. P. Rajan, The former head of the department of General surgery at Calicut medical college, on second December 2007. A modern skin and cosmetology unit was inaugurated by Rev Fr Mathew Mutirachinthiyl on the same day.

Over the last 33 years the hospital was grown to a 200 bedded modern multi specialty hospital proving world class health care for a large population in and around the town of Thiruvambady.
